Climate Change and Wetland Ecosystems: The Effects on Halophilous Vegetation Diversity in Il-Ballut ta’ Marsaxlokk Natura 2000 Site (Malta)

چکیده

Climate change poses a fundamental threat to the wetlands. The Mediterranean basin is biodiversity hotspot, and wetlands are important for maintaining this status. current study evaluated halophilous vegetation diversity of one most relevant Maltese wetlands, Il-Ballut ta’ Marsaxlokk Natura 2000 site, also identified under Water Framework Directive. A analysis was carried out according Braun–Blanquet approach. processed dataset included both data from literature unpublished data. To quantify structure diversity, hierarchical classification (Chord distance; Ward linkage) ecological indices were performed. Diachronic taxonomic Ellenberg indicator values taken into account. We used an NMDS assess fingerprint vegetation. In addition, we provided actual map Marsaxlokk, based on drone orthophotos. five EU Directive habitats in area (1150*, 1310, 1410, 1420, 92D0) which (1150*) reported first time. has undergone changes over time, particularly due increasing temperatures. fact, results showed that nutrients temperature strongest environmental drivers site. methodology demonstrate how studies can serve as tools improve knowledge, management actions, landscape planning sites.

Can Climate Change Trigger Massive Diversity Cascades in Terrestrial Ecosystems

We summarize research on diversity and trophic interactions under a trophic cascades model that is reframed and expanded from the traditional biomassor abundancebased indirect effects and discuss the response of such ―diversity cascades‖ to climate change and other global change parameters. The studies we summarize encompass dynamic processes in which species richness or evenness in one trophic...

Climate change effects on plant disease: genomes to ecosystems.

Research in the effects of climate change on plant disease continues to be limited, but some striking progress has been made. At the genomic level, advances in technologies for the high-throughput analysis of gene expression have made it possible to begin discriminating responses to different biotic and abiotic stressors and potential trade-offs in responses. At the scale of the individual plan...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Climate change impacts on marine ecosystems.

In marine ecosystems, rising atmospheric CO2 and climate change are associated with concurrent shifts in temperature, circulation, stratification, nutrient input, oxygen content, and ocean acidification, with potentially wide-ranging biological effects. Population-level shifts are occurring because of physiological intolerance to new environments, altered dispersal patterns, and changes in spec...

Evaluating the responses of forest ecosystems to climate change and CO2 using dynamic global vegetation models

The climate has important influences on the distribution and structure of forest ecosystems, which may lead to vital feedback to climate change. However, much of the existing work focuses on the changes in carbon fluxes or water cycles due to climate change and/or atmospheric CO 2, and few studies have considered how and to what extent climate change and CO 2 influence the ecosystem structure (...
